Product Tour: Scheduled Backups, Proven by a Restore

A backup only counts once it has been restored. This tour schedules backups to a local folder and to a remote bucket, makes a deliberate change, restores a chosen backup and checks that the site and its data are back.

Walkthrough

  1. Choose what to back up: a website’s files, its MySQL, PostgreSQL or MongoDB database, or the Nodekeeper configuration itself.
  2. Choose where to: a local directory, S3, Alibaba Cloud OSS, or a remote configured through rclone.
  3. Set the schedule (cron) and how many days of backups to keep.
  4. Run the job and check its result in the job list.
  5. Change the test site on purpose — edit a page and a database row.
  6. Pick a backup, restore it, and check the page and the row are back as they were.
New backup job dialog: target type (websites, databases, VMs, websites + databases), retention count, local save directory, 6-field cron schedule and optional rclone upload; site path redacted
A backup job: what to back up, where, when (cron) and how many runs to keep, with optional upload to an rclone remote. Screenshot from a test environment, 2026-11-04. Addresses, accounts, domains and paths are irreversibly redacted.

Limits and prerequisites
  • Only the destination types listed above are documented. Storage and traffic fees of a cloud destination are yours.
  • Copying files to a remote with rclone is not versioning and not ransomware protection on its own — keep several restore points and check them.
  • Storage snapshots (for cloud PCs and VMs on distributed storage) are recovery points inside the same cluster. They are not a replacement for an independent backup.
